The Arts Council of Appling County is presenting its third annual production of In the Pines November 18-20, 2016. This production focuses on the social, economic and cultural history, remembrances and folk life of Appling County and the surrounding Altamaha River Valley and Wiregrass region. This year’s production theme is “Growin’ Pains” and will showcase new stories of many Baxley and Appling County firsts: gas station, library, special families, etc. – as well as continue with show favorites: Hen House Five, Barnes Drugstore scenes and precious stories of Caroline Miller’s family… there’s talk of the boys bringing home a goat!
An open casting call for this play is being held Monday, August 29 and Tuesday, August 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Caroline Miller House, 96 Anthony Street, Baxley. If you are interested in participating in this community production, please come to this casting call. We need actors of all ages, production crew (painters, carpenters, costume designers, etc.), musicians and vocalists. Laurie Jo Upchurch, In the Pines director and playwright, will head this meeting.
